top 5 war films of all time [cast picks]
We open Ajax In Iraq tomorrow!
To celebrate, we asked our cast to name their favorite war films. There are PLENTY
to choose from, but we think the NMA squad made some pretty great selections...
JESSICA CARLSEN (SICKLES)
"The Invisible War"
For Jessica's choice, she went with this 2012 documentary about sexual assault in the United States Military. It premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the U.S. Documentary Audience Award.
JAMES BANE (SERGEANT)
"Attack on the 4th of July"
James, one of three veterans in the cast, had a lot to say about the subject of war films. Ultimately, he settled on this 2014 documentary short, about a combat team defending an outpost from a major Taliban attack, saying "this is the film to watch if you want to actually understand what war is like."
ZACH DAVIDSON (PISONI)
"Tropic Thunder"
With all the great war movies that are out there, Zach opted instead for this 2008 action-comedy that revolves around Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey Jr. attempting to film a war movie. Seems about right.
JOLENE KIM (ABRAMS)
"Gone With the Wind"
The ever-classy Jolene selected what is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time (because Jolene, apparently, plays to win). Did you know that this 1939 instant classic was actually the first color film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture?
JOHN FARMANESH-BOCCA (DIRECTOR AND CHOREOGRAPHER)
"I Did Not Forget You"
Okay. In all fairness, John did not pick this film -- he made it. As the writer, director, and lead actor, John describes the piece as "a beautiful, tragic and life-affirming story about a pair of damaged people; An injured Afghanistan War Veteran and a 17-year-old girl." We're proud to say the it has been making the festival circuit, and doing quite well. Go John!
So there you have it: top picks from the cast of Ajax. Did your fave make the list?
